چکیده

A typical human brain consists of roughly 100 billion neurons, and one key aim of Biological Cybernetics is to simulate neural systems. A good model of a neuron accurately represents the behaviour of biological neurons, typically the spiking behaviour. For cybernetics systems that function in real time with thousands, millions, or even billions of simulated neurons, it is also important that the model is computationally efficient. Fatiguing Leaky Integrate and Fire neurons are models that have four free parameters per neuron. They have been used in cybernetic agents, but there have been few links to actual biological behaviour. A model of a rat neocortical neuron is developed with four specific parameter settings. This model is tuned to a particular input regime. When compared to a biological neuron it gets 90% of spikes roughly correct.

Identification of the protease and the turnover signal responsible for cell cycle-dependent degradation of the Caulobacter FliF motor protein.

Flagellar ejection is tightly coupled to the cell cycle in Caulobacter crescentus. The MS ring protein FliF, which anchors the flagellar structure in the inner membrane, is degraded coincident with flagellar release. Previous work showed that removal of 26 amino acids from the C terminus of FliF prevents degradation of the protein and interferes with flagellar assembly. To understand FliF degra...

Role of the cytoplasmic C terminus of the FliF motor protein in flagellar assembly and rotation.

Twenty-six FliF monomers assemble into the MS ring, a central motor component of the bacterial flagellum that anchors the structure in the inner membrane. Approximately 100 amino acids at the C terminus of FliF are exposed to the cytoplasm and, through the interaction with the FliG switch protein, a component of the flagellar C ring, are essential for the assembly of the motor. In this study, w...

Structures of bacterial flagellar motors from two FliF-FliG gene fusion mutants.

Flagella purified from Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium contain FliG, FliM, and FliN, cytoplasmic proteins that are important in torque generation and switching, and FliF, a transmembrane structural protein. The motor portion of the flagellum (the basal body complex) has a cytoplasmic C ring and a transmembrane M ring. Incubation of purified basal bodies at pH 4.5 removed FliM and FliN b...

Neural Network Sensitivity to Inputs and Weights and its Application to Functional Identification of Robotics Manipulators

Neural networks are applied to the system identification problems using adaptive algorithms for either parameter or functional estimation of dynamic systems. In this paper the neural networks' sensitivity to input values and connections' weights, is studied. The Reduction-Sigmoid-Amplification (RSA) neurons are introduced and four different models of neural network architecture are proposed and...
